Microsoft Unveils First Batch of Surface AI Computers with Dedicated Copilot Key

Microsoft Surface Pro 10

Microsoft announced this week the first batch of business-focused Surface products featuring keyboards with a dedicated Copilot AI assistant key. The lineup includes the Surface Pro 10 for Business tablet and the Surface Laptop 6 for Business, with pre-orders now available in select markets and expected to ship in April.

These are the first products from Microsoft since the introduction of the standalone Copilot key for Windows 11 in January. Both the Surface Pro, with its Surface Pro Keyboard, and the Surface Laptop 6 keyboards now incorporate a dedicated key that instantly activates Copilot. Microsoft also announced the Adaptive Accessories series, including stylus pens, mice, and joysticks, which can be customized for business users through 3D printing services to accommodate their unique preferences.

According to Microsoft, this marks the first batch of Surface PCs optimized for AI. Both Surface devices feature Windows 11 Pro, Intel Core Ultra vPro processors, and Intel AI Boost NPU for AI capabilities. Windows 11 Pro can also be downgraded to Windows 10 Pro if needed. Performance-wise, the Surface Pro 10 offers a 53% improvement over its predecessor, while the Laptop 6 is twice as fast. The integrated NPU enables AI functions such as Windows Studio Effects for image enhancement and Live Caption for real-time captions. The Surface Pro 10 boasts a 114° field of view, making it the first Windows PC with such a wide-angle, and combined with its 1440p display and Windows Studio Effects, it offers enhanced visuals for business professionals during Teams video conferences.

To ensure enterprise security, both products are Windows 11 Secured-core PCs, featuring hardware TPM 2.0 chips, BitLocker support, and Windows Hello facial recognition. They also support NFC authentication for hardware keys like YubiKey.

The two devices prioritize durability, portability, and energy efficiency. The Surface Pro 10 for Business features a lightweight 13-inch PixelSense touch screen, weighing just 879 grams, with a battery life of up to 19 hours under normal usage. The Surface Laptop 6 comes in 13.5-inch and 15-inch models, weighing 1.38 and 1.68 kilograms respectively, with a battery life ranging from 18.5 to 19 hours.

In terms of specifications, the new generation Surface computers start with 8GB of memory and offer a minimum of 256GB solid-state drive options.

The Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 are priced at $1,200, and pre-orders are now open in select markets. Customers can contact authorized Surface dealers for purchasing, with shipping scheduled to begin on April 9, 2024.
