Microsoft recently updated the free version of its AI assistant, Copilot, transitioning from the underlying GPT-4 model to the latest GPT-4 Turbo.
GPT-4 Turbo, a large language model (LLM) unveiled by OpenAI in November of last year, utilizes training data up to April 2023. It supports context lengths of up to 128,000 tokens (128K). In comparison, the GPT-4 training data remains current only until September 2021, with a maximum context length of 32,768 tokens. OpenAI emphasizes that while GPT-4 Turbo is more powerful, its input and output pricing is at one-third and one-half of GPT-4’s, respectively.
If you’re a Microsoft Copilot user, you can now freely access GPT-4 Turbo. Upgrading to GPT-4 Turbo enhances the free Copilot version’s ability to comprehend conversation context, enabling it to handle more complex queries and provide accurate, coherent responses while avoiding repetition or contradictions.
Additionally, in conjunction with feature upgrades for the paid Copilot Pro version, Microsoft has also upgraded its underlying model to GPT-4 Turbo. Pro users have the flexibility to revert to the older version using a slider in the settings. Earlier this week, Microsoft introduced GPT Builder for Copilot Pro, allowing users to create customized AI chatbot assistants.
